How did that album get that name and cover?
The album "Phuckit" was recorded in Nashville in early 2006. When The Mystic Cowboys completed the recording session, Paul Gannon of Big Ears Studios, asked Mystic Cowboy Dan Johnson what he wanted to title the album. Dan said, "I don't know." So Paul said how about "Fuckit" 'cuz you guys said that plenty of times during the recording session? And so that name originally stuck until . . .
Early that spring, Dan, his brother (me) and sister-in-law (Mimi) were walking on an unusually balmy day in South Dakota. After about walking for an hour, they stopped by a local pub for a cold one. After two cold ones, Dan and his brother noticed an unusual wildlife mount above the bar. It appeared to be a hen mallard duck with pheasant tail feathers. They questioned the bartender, "What the heck is that?" He responded, "It's not pheasant and it's not a duck. It's a phuck." So from that moment on, the album name changed slightly to "Phuckit."
This album name reflects not only the tone of this recording session, but is unfortunately also indicative of the attitude of many a long-struggling artist trying . . .
The final album version doesn't contain any of the studio "Phuckit" chatter, but if you would like me to email you FREE, one of the songs from the original studio version, click here.
